Internships:  Academic Health Department

DOH-Sarasota is an academic health department.  It offers a unique learning environment, via internships, for students from a broad range of academic disciplines. To accomplish this, DOH-Sarasota fosters unique linkages resulting in significant benefits not only for the health department and its partner universities, but also for students, faculty, health department employees, and the community as a whole.

Students can gain from a range of experiences, including:

  • Research: Small-sample and population research opportunities, including risk identification, social marketing, and intervention evaluation.
  • Training: Interdisciplinary, cooperative training opportunities for public health, medical, and nursing students to explore practice issues in a field setting.
  • Policy Development: From community to legislative proposal and policy formulation, opportunities to interact with county government and community leaders to work for change.
  • Service Learning: Connecting research and learning with the greater good.
