“Our family caring for yours”
Your family's medical home
Keeping your children healthy can be a challenge. Sharing that
responsibility and avoiding late night trips to the hospital emergency
room is easier and less costly when you have an established pediatrician
or medical home. You'll find that home at the brand new Sally &
Sam Shapiro Babies and Children's Medical Center.
Less wait time
This larger children’s medical center has three pediatricians on staff
and has more exam rooms. This allows children to be seen sooner with
less waiting time for an appointment than in the old facility.
Expanded services
The new center includes a small pharmacy that will
open in the fall. There is a room for breastfeeding moms. On Fridays
starting in July, eligible families can access the
Women, Infants
and Children (WIC) federal nutrition program.
Healthy Start services are also provided. The larger space allows
for more children to receive early childhood developmental screenings.
This means potential problems can be identified and addressed before
children start school. Nutrition classes are also offered to promote
healthy weight.
Our thanks to those who made the new center possible
The new center is the result of a funding campaign launched by the Board
of the Glasser Schoenbaum Human Services Center
with generous contributions from the community, especially Sally and Sam
Shapiro, for whom the new facility is named. The federal Health Resources
and Services Administration, which helps expand primary health care
services in high-need communities,
also contributed over $500,000. This was made possible because of
DOH-Sarasota’s designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center.
Primary health care services at DOH-Sarasota are provided under a private/public
partnership with
Community Health Center of North Port, Inc.
