Clean Hands Toolkit for
SCHOOLS
Teachers and administrators know that colds and flu spread
rapidly within schools, causing many children to miss school
days. A dedicated program for hand washing can reduce
absenteeism, making for a smoother school year. Education and
awareness on hand washing can help increase the number of
students who wash their hands.
Did you know:
-
In one study, only 58% of female and
48% of male middle and high school students washed their
hands after using the bathroom.
-
Of those who washed their hands, only
33% of the females and 8% of the males used soap!
-
Hand washing benefits very young
children as well - in Minnesota, a daycare resulted in 50%
fewer illnesses by helping the kids wash their hands every
morning when they arrived.
