Kick Butts Day 2014

On March 17th and 18th 2014, nationally recognized youth motivational speaker Patrick “Pac Man” Perez gave presentations to students at North Port High School, Venice High School, Riverview High School, and Pine View School. An estimated 1700 students attended these presentations. Patrick empowered participants by discussing how decisions and hard work can affect your life today and in the future. He also included information about tobacco advertising and how the industry is targeting youth with these methods. He also promoted SWAT and the statewide Not A Replacement campaign. The presentations were well-attended and both students and teachers actively participated by showing their dance moves on stage. To learn more about Patrick, visit his website www.patrickperez.org.

Other SWAT clubs throughout the county participated in Kick Butts Day by hosting various activities such as a pig lung demonstration, pledge drives, carnival games, and activities related to the Not A Replacement campaign. Also, Pine View SWAT members Jonah Mundy and Paige Hansen won first place in the national Kick Butts Day PSA Contest. Their video “The Science Behind a Cigarette” can be seen on the home page.
