Kick Butts Day 2012

On March 20th and 21st 2012, presentations were given in Sarasota County schools by youth motivational speaker Patrick Perez in conjunction with Kick Butts Day. Kick Butts Day occurs on the third Wednesday of March, and it is a national day of activism that empowers youth to speak up and take action against tobacco use.

Patrick Perez gave presentations at Sarasota Middle School, Brookside Middle School, Suncoast Polytechnical High School, and North Port High School. Patrick talked about how setting goals and making healthy choices leads to later success in life. He incorporated dancing into his presentations and encouraged audience participation from both students and teachers. You can learn more about Patrick on his website.

SWAT teams in Sarasota County also planned activities at their schools and community organizations. Some of these activities included creating posters to promote Kick Butts Day, organizing a flash mob, displaying memorial banners, hosting a door decorating contest, playing tobacco trivia games, having students sign pledges to remain tobacco free, and making displays to demonstrate shocking tobacco statistics.
