During the months of December and January six SWAT youth met individually with Commissioner Shaw, Commissioner Brody, and Commissioner Ahearn-Koch about point of sale marketing and the benefits of a tobacco retailer license policy in Sarasota County. Point of Sale Marketing is a method used by the tobacco industry to market their products to youth.
On December 2nd, 25 Sarasota County SWAT members participated in the Sarasota Holiday Parade. Youth held signs to encourage tobacco prevention and cessation and distributed stickers to promote the SWAT program.
On November 16, SWAT Clubs across Sarasota County participated in the Great American Smokeout. Sarasota Middle School SWAT members held signs outside of the student drop off area asking parents to honk their horns if they support a tobacco free life. Sarasota County SWAT members participated in cleaning up tobacco litter and other waste from two local parks. Youth cleaned up Red Bug Slough Preserve in August 2014 and Urfer Park in January 2015.
